These Terms and Conditions apply to enquiries, reservations and tour services supplied by Wilderness Balkans L.L.C. (“Wilderness Balkans”, “we”, “us” or “our”). By confirming a booking or making a payment, the lead traveller confirms that they have read and accepted these terms on behalf of all travellers included in the booking.

2. Booking and Contract Formation

A website enquiry or booking request is not automatically a confirmed reservation. A binding booking is created when Wilderness Balkans issues written confirmation and receives the required 30% deposit, unless a different written arrangement is expressly agreed.

The itinerary, dates, price, group size, inclusions, exclusions and any special conditions shown on the relevant tour page, personalised quotation or booking confirmation form part of the contract. If there is a conflict, the most recent written booking confirmation accepted by both parties takes priority.

The lead traveller must be at least 18 years old and is responsible for providing accurate information, communicating these terms to the group and making payments due for the booking.

3. Prices and Payment

  • A deposit equal to 30% of the total booking price is payable by bank transfer when the reservation is made.
  • The remaining balance may be paid before arrival or on arrival, as agreed in the booking confirmation.
  • For guided tours, the balance may be paid in cash or by POS card payment to the designated guide.
  • For self-guided tours, the balance may be paid in cash or by POS card payment on arrival at Gacaferi Guest House.

The traveller is responsible for bank transfer charges, card issuer fees and currency conversion costs charged by their own provider. A booking is not fully paid until cleared funds have been received.

4. What the Tour Price Includes

Only services expressly listed as included on the tour page, quotation or booking confirmation are included in the price. Flights, travel documents, personal equipment, drinks, personal expenses and other items listed as excluded remain the traveller’s responsibility.

5. Cancellation by the Traveller

A cancellation must be sent in writing to one of the email addresses in Section 1. The effective cancellation date is the date on which Wilderness Balkans receives the written notice.

  • 21 days or more before the tour starts: free cancellation and a full refund of payments received.
  • 11 to 20 days before the tour starts: a cancellation charge equal to 30% of the total booking price.
  • 10 days or fewer before the tour starts, including non-arrival: a cancellation charge equal to 100% of the total booking price.

A documented serious medical reason may be reviewed individually. Any exception, credit, date change or refund outside the schedule above applies only when confirmed by Wilderness Balkans in writing.

6. Missed Flights and Late Arrival

The traveller must notify Wilderness Balkans as soon as possible if a delayed or missed flight will affect arrival.

  • For a guided tour, Wilderness Balkans will assist in arranging an additional transfer so the traveller can join the group at the next reasonably accessible point.
  • For a self-guided tour, the traveller may begin the itinerary one day later when this can reasonably be arranged.

Additional transfers, accommodation, meals or other services caused by a missed flight or late arrival are paid by the traveller. Services missed because of late arrival are not refundable.

7. Cancellation or Significant Change by Wilderness Balkans

We may make reasonable changes when necessary for safety, weather, trail, border, transport or accommodation conditions. We will provide a suitable alternative where reasonably possible and inform affected travellers as soon as practical.

We may cancel a tour if the stated minimum group size is not reached. For packages lasting more than six days, notice will be provided no later than 20 days before departure; for packages lasting two to six days, no later than seven days before departure; and for packages lasting less than two days, no later than 48 hours before departure.

We may also cancel when unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances prevent performance. When Wilderness Balkans cancels under this section, the traveller may accept an offered replacement or receive a refund of payments due under applicable law, normally within 14 days. Statutory rights concerning significant changes, price reductions or compensation remain unaffected.

8. Itinerary and Outdoor Conditions

Mountain travel is affected by weather, snow, trail conditions, border procedures, transport and the abilities of the group. The guide or local team may adapt the itinerary, route, timing, accommodation or transport when reasonably necessary for safety or proper delivery of the tour. Such decisions must be respected.

A particular summit, trail segment, border crossing or daily distance cannot be guaranteed when conditions make it unsafe or impractical. We will seek to provide a suitable alternative with comparable value where reasonably possible.

9. Traveller Responsibilities

Each traveller is responsible for:

  • providing complete and accurate booking and contact information;
  • holding a valid passport, visa and any other required travel documents;
  • following reasonable safety instructions from guides and local partners;
  • bringing the clothing, footwear and personal equipment communicated for the tour;
  • informing us before departure about relevant medical, dietary, accessibility or mobility needs;
  • behaving respectfully toward guides, residents, other travellers, accommodation providers and the natural environment; and
  • not participating while impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs or any condition that creates an unreasonable safety risk.

We may refuse or end a traveller’s participation when their conduct creates a serious risk to themselves or others. Any decision will be made reasonably and with regard to the circumstances.

10. Health, Insurance and Mountain Rescue

Travel health insurance is not mandatory for booking a Wilderness Balkans tour, but comprehensive travel insurance remains strongly recommended. Travellers should consider cover for medical treatment, trip cancellation, lost luggage, mountain activities, evacuation and repatriation.

During the booked itinerary, Wilderness Balkans will coordinate and cover reasonable local mountain search-and-rescue services when they are necessary. Hospital treatment, medical care, helicopter or medical evacuation, repatriation and other costs outside local mountain search and rescue remain the traveller’s responsibility.

Assistance and rescue response depend on terrain, weather, communications, borders and the availability and instructions of competent emergency services. No rescue response time can be guaranteed.

11. Accommodation, Transport and Local Providers

Tours may use family-run guesthouses, hotels, guides, drivers and other independent local providers. Accommodation standards, room arrangements, food and facilities may differ from those in the traveller’s home country. Specific services are governed by the booking confirmation and the reasonable local conditions described before departure.

12. Complaints and Problems During the Tour

A traveller should report any problem without unnecessary delay to the guide or to Wilderness Balkans so that we have a reasonable opportunity to correct it. If the issue is not resolved during the tour, a written complaint should be sent to the emails in Section 1 with relevant details and supporting documents.

Nothing in these terms limits a traveller’s mandatory rights to an appropriate remedy, price reduction or compensation under applicable law.

13. Liability

Wilderness Balkans is responsible for delivering the contracted travel services in accordance with applicable law, including when services are performed by providers engaged as part of the package. We are not responsible for loss caused by the traveller, an unrelated third party whose actions were unforeseeable or unavoidable, or unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances, except where applicable law provides otherwise.

Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer and package-travel rights.

14. Personal Data

Personal data is processed as described in our Privacy Policy. Information necessary to deliver a cross-border tour may be shared with guides, accommodation providers, transport operators and competent authorities in Kosovo, Albania or Montenegro.

15. Website Content and Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, text, branding and original content on this website belong to Wilderness Balkans or are used with permission. They may not be reproduced commercially without prior written permission. Tour descriptions and availability may be updated, but confirmed bookings remain governed by the written agreement with the traveller.

16. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kosovo. Any dispute will first be addressed in good faith through direct communication. If it cannot be resolved, the competent courts of Kosovo will have jurisdiction, without limiting any mandatory rights or remedies available to a consumer under applicable law.
